My role is a Support Worker, but I've recently branched out and am now running the Hikoi and Boxfit programme.
I'm really enjoying the Boxfit classes. Physical activity creates endorphins and helps with physical and mental wellbeing so I thought it would a good outlet for our tangata. This led me to apply for funding to get the pads and gloves for the classes. Overall, the participation has been really positive.
The Hikoi programme is another one of my passions. Every week, I show our tangata there are lots of beautiful places to explore in Tamaki Makaurau. The hikoi gets them out of their comfort zone, away from the city, and connects them closer to nature which can positively impact their mental wellbeing.
On the weekends, my favourite things are hiking, going to the beach or on road trips. I have a passion for the outdoors and love bringing this into my mahi. Being fit and healthy is also important to me, so in my spare time, I keep active by playing basketball, tennis and doing crossfit.
I love watching sports. I’m a big NBA fan and my team is the LA Lakers. Catching up with family and friends is important to me too. They inspire and motivate me to be better.
It’s been rewarding supporting tangata in reaching their goals and I’m proud to be a part of the Te Matawai whanau.
